DCEMA to Conduct Community Emergency Exercises in Wards 7 and 8
Citizens Will Have Opportunity To Practice Emergency Plans
(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Emergency Management Agency (DCEMA) will conduct a series of community emergency management tabletop exercises in November for residents of neighborhoods in Wards 7 and 8. The exercises are designed to test the community emergency management plans developed by DCEMA for these neighborhoods.
The exercises will give residents the opportunity to practice their response to an emergency in their neighborhood using the plan developed for their community. Representatives from city agencies will be present to assist participants in the exercise. DCEMA will use information gained from the exercises to update and revise the plans.
“The community emergency management plans were developed to meet the unique needs of and address the specific hazards found in each of the city’s 39 neighborhood clusters,” said DCEMA director Barbara Childs-Pair. “We are working to help our neighborhoods prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies by empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to sustain themselves for the first 72 hours after an emergency. Government can’t do everything, so it’s important that citizens become involved.”
